Small Satellites for Secondary Students (S4)
In the June 2013, Michelle Rodriguez (2013-14 Section President) and Salam Ali (2013-2016 Section Public Relations Coordinator) attended a week-long training at NASA Dryden’s Aero Institute. Shortly after, our SWE section launched the Small Satellites for Secondary Students (S4) program in partnership with the Girl Scouts of Northern California.
Our mission with the S4 project was to familiarize thirteen girls, ages 11-16, with the fundamentals of aerospace engineering. Students created their own payloads (which they launched on rockets!), and gained various engineering skills, knowledge, and strategies-- such as soldering, fundamentals of programming and code, and the processes of various sensors. Additionally, through this program, the participants would gain exposure to the processes of experimental design, implementation and analysis. |
AwardThis program received the Region A Outreach Event Award for Collegiate Sections in February 2015.
